Carpooling to the Capitol

Good Evening Neighbor:

I do not think I could stand too many eventful days like today!!!!

A group will be meeting at Bethany United Methodist Church at 8:45 am on Friday to carpool to the Capitol.  The hearing regarding PSC runs from 10:00am to 12:00pm.  Please email Laurie Turkel on our Task Force to let her know if you are interested in carpooling   barrynlaurie@comcast.net .  I hope to see hundreds of our community there - we must let our government know how seriously we take this - we have put our energy forth and now we expect theirs in return!!!!

I guess the joke is on me with regard to my slogan below - I certainly did not mean this quick!!!!!  What is it they say, "You better watch what you Pray for".

Your Neighbor,

Connie

I Got a Call!!!

Good Morning Neighbor:

I got a call this morning from Georgia Senator Ronnie Chance's office asking me to speak at the Hearing this Friday regarding PSC and they are open to whatever I want to say!!!  I NEED YOU TO BE THERE!!!!!!   It is going to be in Capitol Room 450.  There will be media coverage there - Channel Two has it on their agenda as well as the Fayette Citizen.

I know several people would like to carpool down so I will be forwarding that information soon.

Emergency Meeting at the Capitol!!!!!!

Good Evening Neighbor:

I heard by mere accident that there are going to be Environmental Hearings regarding the PSC Incident that poisoned our community - the hearings are to be held this Friday from 10-12 at the State Capitol.  It is my understanding that State Senator Ronnie Chance and State House Representative Virgil Fludd have known about these hearings at least since the first of last week because they spoke about them at a gathering in Fayette around that time.

I have worked feverishly trying to find out information - I have called and sent emails to Ronnie Chance but no returns - I have also emailed Virgil Fludd he emailed back the following:

Connie,

I am aware of the hearings but don't have details on the meeting yet. Since I am not the meeting organizer, I can not invite your testimony.

Virgil

Here was my response

Virgil - if you get information - please inform us.  I am extremely distressed that once again the citizens are having to beg for this information.  I do not understand why the Task Force was not contacted as soon as there was word of these hearings - especially since specific time is being devoted to the PSC incident.  We had to find this information out from someone we do not even know that heard of these hearings at a gathering they attended some time early last week.

Connie

I am beside myself with anger - after all we have been through and not a phone call or an email to tell us that these hearings would be taking place about US!!!!!  I hope that each and everyone of you will lay down whatever you are doing this Friday and get yourself to the Capitol - we must insist and guarantee that OUR VOICES ARE HEARD!!!!!

YOU MUST MAKE A STAND - THESE PEOPLE ARE ELECTED TO SERVE US YET WE ARE NOT A PART OF THEIR DIALOGUE!!!!!!  THINGS WILL ONLY CHANGE IF WE MAKE THEM CHANGE.  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE - WE HAVE DONE IT BEFORE AND WE CAN DO IT AGAIN!!!!!!!

Connie

AMVAC Has Another Law Suit

Good Morning Neighbor:

It appears that AMVAC is creating quite a record as to bringing harm to people!!!  See the article below that was printed in the AJC yesterday.  I hope that our class action attorneys do not settle.  I will try to gain information as to the status of our law suit.

Your Neighbor,

Connie

LEGAL: Dole Foods loses $3.3 million verdict

Los Angeles —- A jury awarded $3.3 million to six workers on Monday who claimed they were left sterile by a pesticide used at a banana plantation in Nicaragua operated by Dole Fresh Fruit Co. The lawsuit accused Dole and Standard Fruit Co., now part of Dole, of negligence and fraudulent concealment while using the pesticide DBCP in the 1970s. The chemical was used to kill microscopic worms on the roots of the banana plants. The suit also alleged that Dow Chemical Co. and Amvac Chemical Corp., manufacturers of the pesticide, "actively suppressed information about DBCP's reproductive toxicity," the suit states. Amvac reached a $300,000 settlement in the case before the trial, spokeswoman Kelly Kozuma said.

FEMA Actions Validates the Mistrust of Government Officials

As one who has had the daunting task of wrestling with government officials over the past year in order to make sure our local environment was safe to live in once again, I must say the words I kept hearing from our community have rang so true, "you cannot trust our government".  It is difficult to empower citizens to truly know that they can make a difference when a government agency such as FEMA feels so powerful that they feel they can hold a fake news conference.  We as a society must not let this pass by without truly seeing how out of control our government has become.  Is it true that we now have a government who feels they are not held accountable to the people?  It certainly appears this is now the norm.

I for one refuse to let this be true and I know for a fact that the South Fulton and Fayette Community refuse this state as well.  The balance of power between the government and the citizen must be restored.  A true democracy must be one that is steered by the citizen not the fear of lost power by their government officials.  I urge our community not to let this moment pass by – please take a moment and write or email your congressional leader and let them know that you – A Citizen of a Democracy  - will not stand for this and wish to see that your voice is restored to its rightful place  - FIRST!

All Too Familiar

Good Morning Neighbor:

A blessed friend of mine sent me this article this morning and it is all too familiar.  Once again, you will find at the end of the article there are no laws - the very thing we deal with here in Georgia and what so compels me to run for office.

May we all try to make a difference where ever we can - we already know it can be done!!!!

Your Voice is Needed

Good Morning Neighbor:

As I told you last week,  Walker Brothers is suing the Fairburn Town Council, Mayor and City Manager for listening to the citizens and taking a stand for the citizens.  It is so important that you come to Fairburn City Hall this Monday - Oct 22 at 7pm to publicly thank them for doing so.  It doesn't matter where you live - it does matter that when a governmental entity makes a move to do "the right thing" they know that they continue to have the full support of citizens.  There will be a time for public comment at the beginning of the meeting and this will be your time to come forward to say thank you and to let them know you continue to stand behind them.

I look forward to seeing you there!!!

Connie

Transfer Station controversy is not over!!

Good Morning Neighbor:

As you are well aware, the Citizens of Fairburn took a major stand and let their voices ring out with regard to a Waste Transfer Station being placed in their community.  The City Council of Fairburn heard them and voted unanimously to not move forward with the Walker Brothers proposal.  So now Walker Brothers is upset that the City Council took such an action and is taking legal action against the City and the City Manager.  Call me simple minded here but the City Council, Mayor and City Manager work for the Citizens.  So the way I see it they did what their bosses asked them to do so Walker Brothers should be taking legal action against the Citizens.  Oh, wait a minute that could never happen because the Citizens are also who ultimately keeps Walker Brothers in business.

Here is the link to the story below - I encourage you to blog and give your opinion on this story.  Also, I am posting this story on thecommunityvoice.tv with a poll as well.

Walker Brothers should seize the opportunity to get on board with the "Green" planning that it is apparent that the Citizens want for their area - they could be talking a win-win situation for all instead of fear and litigation.

Fungus is plaguing air traffic controllers | The Citizen Online

Good Morning Neighbor:

I hope you are planning an awesome weekend!!!

Well, it appears that some of our neighbors are becoming ill once again due to corporate negligence.  It will be interesting to hear if these workers begin to rally and ask that their illnesses be taken seriously.  So often we do not move forward out of fear - this keeps us in check and the status quo maintained - people really do not realize that things can be better if we only dare to take a stand.  Our community stands as an example of one that dares to make a difference!!!!
