An Invitation

The Polzin Family is inviting our community to visit an historical area on Sandy Creek Road.  They are opening their doors for the first time for our citizens to have a tour of one of the first General Stores in the North Fayette area.  Connie Biemiller will co-host this event and will be there to answer any questions you may have about her candidacy for the State House.  Please bring your cameras and get pictures by these historic structures.

Please plan on dropping by anytime between 10 and 1pm on Saturday June 28 - this historic property is located on Sandy Creek Road between Adams Road and Lees Mill Road - you will not be able to miss the signs.  Connie is looking forward to meeting you and sharing more about her campaign and updating you on our local environmental issues as well.

Elections in Our Community

Good Evening Neighbor:

Well, only a little over two weeks and the primary election will be here (July 15).  I have been so very blessed to have been endorsed by our local environmentalist, Dennis Chase.  I am pasting his endorsement below along with a recent speech I gave with regard to my candidacy and our 2006 toxic event.

I also feel it is important that you see your county ballot.  So I am doing two things. - I am pasting the sample ballots for Fayette and Fulton along with giving you a link to the Georgia Voter Guide where you can input your address.  The guide will then lead you through your candidates so that you can compare and contrast their positions.  Remember you must ask for the democratic ballot if you plan to vote in my race on July 15  - this day will be when my election is decided - there will be no November.

Also, tomorrow I will be sending out an invite to a local event to be held on Saturday so be on the lookout for it.

Your neighbor,

Connie

When in drought, conserve water!

Good Evening Neighbor:

I hope you are having a wonderful Saturday.  I wanted to send this fun quiz as a follow up to my community email this week.  I thought it might help all of us in our quest to conserve.  Please forward it to your friends and neighbors as well.

South Fulton could be heading for a water Crisis

Good Morning Neighbor:

Please see the article I posted below regarding the record low water level at Lake Lanier.  Our South Fulton Community is dependent upon the Lake Lanier Reservoir for drinking water.  South Fulton County and Cities at this time has no reservoir to call their own.  There have been discussions of creating one at Bear Creek according to our neighborhood biologist- Dennis Chase - but that is still in the works.  So we as a community must be vigilant in this matter and begin creating ways to conserve in our own homes and neighborhoods before this reaches a crisis state.  The greatest thing we can do is get this word out to our neighbors and if you have an organized Homeowners Association put this on the agenda and think of ways the community as whole can conserve.

Remember we cannot wait on our government agencies to lead the way in these matters  - we the citizens must take a stand when we see the writing on the wall  and take action.

Your neighbor,

Connie

Another Toxic Nightmare

Good Morning Neighbor:

Another toxic nightmare is about to hit a community in Texas.  Once again, it is waste not just from another State - as in our situation - but from another Country.  As you read through the article, Bayer Corporation is in their community as well (I wonder if it parades as Philip Services Corporation in Texas).    I am going to forward this article with an email to Congressman Scott's office in hopes that a letter can be written in haste to be presented at the June 19 public comment session in Texas.  I would give anything to be there myself to make comment for this community and the citizens of our nation.  We cannot stand by and let the greed of these corporations literally kill us all.  (By the way, why is it that a corporation feels that it has so much power that it can overturn an EPA's decision?)

Environmental Events of Interest

Good Morning Neighbor:

I hope everyone is surviving this extremely warm week here in Georgia.  I also hope that everyone is surviving these unbelievable gas prices.  We are going to need a public campaign in the very, very near future to see what can be done in this arena - there will have to be an uprising of the citizens to say enough is enough.  I am wondering what our boiling point is going to be - $4.00, $5.00 or $6.00?   You can be sure it will be extremely high on my agenda in the State House.

Please see the Forum below that our Environmental Institute of Georgia is co-sponsoring in the coming week.  This is a free event and I encourage you to attend - we have got to start thinking as a community as to how to tackle this crisis.

Also, please see an attached flyer for an Environmental Camp for High Schoolers that EIOG is also sponsoring.  Our young people are going to have the opportunity to learn so much -  please encourage their attendance.

Your neighbor,

Connie

SPECIAL FREE EVENT

S. David Freeman, legendary energy guru known as the "Green Cowboy," talks
about his must-read book that tells the American people the truth about U.S.
dependence on the "Three Poisons" -- foreign oil, dirty coal and dangerous
nuclear power. Speaking from a half-century's experience as an energy
industry and policy insider, Freeman asserts we have all the renewable
energy we need to wean ourselves from the Three Poisons and create a
sustainable future for our planet.

Trained as both a lawyer and engineer, Freeman helped form the Environmental
Protection Agency under Nixon and was key advisor to President Jimmy
Carter's landmark national energy policy. As Carter's appointment to the
Tennessee Valley Authority, Freeman cancelled nine nuclear plants that were
under construction and on order. Later Freeman headed Sacramento Municipal
Utility District, New York Power Authority and Los Angeles Department of
Water and Power and is currently cleaning up the Port of Los Angeles.

Q&A and book signing follow the talk.
