Community Update and the EPA

Good Afternoon Neighbor:

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!!  I don't know about you but as the years go by the more I have to be thankful for -  I remember my grandfather giving the Thanksgiving prayer when I was in my early 20s it literally (no lie) lasted an hour - now I have a glimpse as to why he had so much to be thankful for - I am even thankful now for the memory of his hour long prayer!!!

One of our dear neighbors Lina Pitts who lives directly behind PSC is very ill and is asking for our community prayers - I am posting her email below.  She is one of the many that continue to suffer with ongoing illness since the release of toxins from PSC.  I can remember going to her house during the event - you literally could not breathe - she had to send her young son to live somewhere else and she would stay with friends as often as she could.  See below:

Hello Connie.  I hope your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I am blessed to be here today and I as soliciting everyone's prayers again.  I have been going back and forth to the doctor's.  This time it is not my asthma but something I feel is more serious.  I keep having abnormal kidney test and my blood counts are elevated again.  I have went two weeks straight to have them collect blood work to be sure the testing has been accurate.  I go back this Wednesday.  I as requesting prayers of healing and not that I just get better but to be completely healed from all illness.  When we said that we did not know how we could be affected later on down the road I can truely say that is definetely a fact because my blood was taking back then and I did not have an abnormal kidney test then.  I am thanking you in advance for your prayers now and I know whatever his will is will be done.  Thank you for continuing to be active in the task force.  I will get back active as soon as possible because if we let it die it will continue to happen and we will die right along with it.  Lina

Also, please see the article below - our Vice Chair - April Butler just sent this.  Why would it be that our EPA wants to move backwards on the Environment rather than forward??  Why would they want to relax standards for toxic chemicals rather than strengthen them??  I am really starting to feel that I live in an alternate universe - none of this makes sense!!  I am going to copy this to Congressman Scott's office in hopes that he can enlighten us on what is happening in the Federal Government.

Your neighbor,

Connie

Because we care about our Environment

Good Evening Neighbor:

I thought I would share this article with you as we begin the holiday season and often times increase our power usage.   We may want to think twice this year due to the severe drought our community and entire State is now undergoing - I had no idea how much water our electricity uses!!

Hearings at the Capitol

Good Morning Neighbor:

I am enclosing my speech below that was given yesterday to the Georgia Senate Oversight Committee.  I must say I am very impressed with this committee - the right questions were being asked and the failure of the EPD to serve our community was totally seen by all of them.   I am so thankful that our Community was asked to participate - your Task Force was very well organized and it is evident as to who knows exactly what has occurred  - US!!!  The non-empathy of our plight was even more exemplified by the "Walk Out" of the EPD when I began my speech - this was publicly noted by the Senate Committee.  There will be future hearings - the next one will occur in January 08.

Your neighbor,

Connie

P.S.  We are encountering problems downloading the speech - I will send it soon.

Carpooling to the Capitol

Good Evening Neighbor:

I do not think I could stand too many eventful days like today!!!!

A group will be meeting at Bethany United Methodist Church at 8:45 am on Friday to carpool to the Capitol.  The hearing regarding PSC runs from 10:00am to 12:00pm.  Please email Laurie Turkel on our Task Force to let her know if you are interested in carpooling   barrynlaurie@comcast.net .  I hope to see hundreds of our community there - we must let our government know how seriously we take this - we have put our energy forth and now we expect theirs in return!!!!

I guess the joke is on me with regard to my slogan below - I certainly did not mean this quick!!!!!  What is it they say, "You better watch what you Pray for".

Your Neighbor,

Connie

Emergency Meeting at the Capitol!!!!!!

Good Evening Neighbor:

I heard by mere accident that there are going to be Environmental Hearings regarding the PSC Incident that poisoned our community - the hearings are to be held this Friday from 10-12 at the State Capitol.  It is my understanding that State Senator Ronnie Chance and State House Representative Virgil Fludd have known about these hearings at least since the first of last week because they spoke about them at a gathering in Fayette around that time.

I have worked feverishly trying to find out information - I have called and sent emails to Ronnie Chance but no returns - I have also emailed Virgil Fludd he emailed back the following:

Connie,

I am aware of the hearings but don't have details on the meeting yet. Since I am not the meeting organizer, I can not invite your testimony.

Virgil

Here was my response

Virgil - if you get information - please inform us.  I am extremely distressed that once again the citizens are having to beg for this information.  I do not understand why the Task Force was not contacted as soon as there was word of these hearings - especially since specific time is being devoted to the PSC incident.  We had to find this information out from someone we do not even know that heard of these hearings at a gathering they attended some time early last week.

Connie

I am beside myself with anger - after all we have been through and not a phone call or an email to tell us that these hearings would be taking place about US!!!!!  I hope that each and everyone of you will lay down whatever you are doing this Friday and get yourself to the Capitol - we must insist and guarantee that OUR VOICES ARE HEARD!!!!!

YOU MUST MAKE A STAND - THESE PEOPLE ARE ELECTED TO SERVE US YET WE ARE NOT A PART OF THEIR DIALOGUE!!!!!!  THINGS WILL ONLY CHANGE IF WE MAKE THEM CHANGE.  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE - WE HAVE DONE IT BEFORE AND WE CAN DO IT AGAIN!!!!!!!

Your Neighbor,

Connie
